Cupcake mini album - tutorial

Hello creatives,

Im back with my DT project for Lulupu, the theme this month is

Make a Mini

(Click here to read all challenge rules)
Special rules for this challenge:
1. Construct a mini, don't use a ready available album (example mdf album)
2. You can use any binding, any theme
3. Submit entries by 30 November, 2015, 11.55pm IST

The challenge winner will receive a goodie bag from Lulupu.

Ive made a cupcake shaped mini album and have a tutorial on creating the cover page and tips for decorating your albums.  Its not a long post, but hope it brightens up your day :)
Are you ready to get started? Here is how the cover came into being.
Step1: Using a template, cut out cupcake outlines from Simple Life Echo Park 6x6 papers. These are double sided, so you already have a background for the other side.
Step2: Trace only the base of the cupcake ( not the cream) onto vellum or acetate. Handstich the vellum to one of the cupcake cutouts, I forgot to click, but you'll understand what I'm talking about in a minute. Fill it up with sequins - gold, grey. Ive also added some star confetti.
Step5: Seal shut with double sided tape. This part is a bit tricky, but patience pays :) in the form of clean finishing. You will now have something like this ( minus eyelets and stickers)

Next step is to create the focal points for each page aka embellishments. This was by far the most enjoyable and time consuming part of the project.
Ive used crate paper open book 12x12 papers and the ephemera pack and they matched  the colour theme quite well. My two tips when it comes to embellishments:
1. Mix and match  whatever is in your stash.
2. Layering - Experiment with combining  different materials  - lace, vellum, chipboard, acetate
Some details- the clothespin holding the butterfly had been glittered using the fine tip zig pen, the pinwheel  is held together  with American crafts glitter brad, the big heart sticker has an action wobble below it and finally the little moments base comes from Maggi Holmes ephemera packaging.
Can you see gold tape peeking through some of the layers- totally in love with this tape.

Using the crop-a-dile, attach green eyelets to all the pages. Finally assemble all the pages. Here is a close up of the pages.

And the other side.

In my second post this month, I will be taking you through more details of each page.

Love you Sweets - Mini Album and tutorial

Hello friends,

I'm really overwhelmed by the comments, visits and likes on both Facebook and my blog for my previous post on the mixed media canvas. Your appreciation means a lot to me so heartfelt thank you.

I'm on the Lulupu blog today announcing the new challenge for February. I hope many more of you will be able to participate, going forward challenges will be open for the whole month. One theme and a whole month to come up with entries. The DT will continue to present challenge related inspiration. But in addition, they will also bring you tips, tutorials, product reviews and projects throughout the month.

So lets get started with

Lulupu Challenge #46
Love you SWEETS
Twist - Use Red or Pink
(Click here to read the general guidelines)

1. Anything goes - so you can make a card, layout, canvas, mini album, 3d project etc.
2. Emphasis on Sweets - use it in the sentiment, title or literally - cupcakes, candies, chocolates..... use your imagination
3. Don't forget the twist - Include Red or Pink in your project. You can use both too if you want.
4. You have until 28 February, 2015 11:55 IST to submit your entries.

Here is my project for you all. Its a valentines themed flip up mini album. The spine is an old photo frame from IKEA. The first page is a cupcake shaker placemat and I have a tutorial on how it was put together.
The first step is to get the layers ready. They have been numbered in the image below, so that its easy for me to explain each one.
1.  Full image x 2 cut out of pearl paper to form front and back of the shaker placemat.
2. Outline x3 chipboard for the inner portion of the shaker, to give depth and form the cavity that holds the sequins.
3. Outline solid x 2 acetate sheets.
All of these were cut using the Silhouette Cameo and I designed it using some free shapes on the internet.

NOTE: The order of assembling the shaker is important.
Full image – acetate – 3xchipboard – acetate – full image
If you want to stamp or colour the full image cut-outs, its best to do so before assembling the shaker. Attach the embellishment later.
Stack-up the three pieces of chipboard and stick them together. Wet glue works well as you can move around the pieces and adjust the alignment.
Here is a close up of the shaker card
The sequins are confined to the shape of the cupcake, so the placemat can be strung through ribbon or rings to bind into a mini. Also, the shaker is identical from front and back.

Wanted to try something different and really happy with the outcome.
Wishing you all a great crafting week!

Child's play - Mixed Media Mini Album

I'm on the Lulupu blog today, with my take on

Challenge #41 - Child's Play
(You can read more about the challenge here, and general challenge guidelines here)

My very first scrapbooking project ever, was a mini album to record the birth of my first born. So when I saw the theme for the challenge this time, I thought what a perfect excuse to make a brag book - small enough to carry in the handbag, but big enough to journal on. Why not preserve a little more than just photographs this time? So my toddler pitched in with creating the background of  these pages - splashing paints and stamping.

The base for all pages is watercolour paper with printed script tissue glued using matt multi medium. I usually let this dry overnight. Once dry, apply clear gesso all over. Again allow to dry. Then add white gesso in random places.

Im in love with the My Huey's watercolour set. There are so many easy ways of adding watercolours to your background. The technique used on the pages here is not only easy but quite mess free and hence great for tiny little hands. Take a piece of plastic (cover from a stamp set or in my case the cover from coffee break stickers). Using a wet brush, lift some paint off the watercolour cake and dab onto the plastic. Now, paint side down apply it on paper. The paint will transfer leaving a random pattern. Vary the amount of paint and pressure with which you tap the plastic on the paper to get different interesting patterns.

These pages were photographed before binding. Each page measures 6 inches by 8 inches. Fold them in half, they now measure 6X4. Stick them back to back so they become a 6inch X4inch book.

Each page took less than 30 minutes to put together (barring the first step of letting the matt medium dry) And finally, the cover - it measures a little more than the pages and wraps right around them. The spine is about half an inch and the top flap is held in place by a paper clip. I didn't use any wet mediums on the cover, so it doesn't warp ; just some stamping and washi tape.

I hope you liked my project and feel inspired to join us in this challenge.

Challenge # 37 + Steps to create 4 backgrounds

Hello my dear friends,

I'm over on the Lulupu blog with Challenge # 37Background stamps + Mists / Ink spray

I had a lot of fun making this mini album and I do hope you all like it. You know, how once in a while you come across a paper pack that you just can't stop creating with - well for me this was it - Heidi Swapp Dreamy! Each and every paper in this pack is super cute.

The album is perfect to hold a few wallet size photographs and there is room for loads of journaling. Now onto the inside pages. Each has been made using stamps, mists and just to add some fun Studio 490 Embossing paste (Translucent) I didn't want a very picture heavy post, so only one photo per page. If you would like to see more photos or have any Qs regarding the steps, please drop me a line and Ill get back to you.

Once the pages were done, I trimmed them down, folded and embellished them using a Heidi Swapp Ephemera pack and Studio Calico wood veneer. There are so many fun elements in a pack - tags, tickets, vellum shapes, journaling cards and more! Here is what the pages finally look like. The embellies on the photo mat have been stapled in the corner so the photo can easily be slid under them.

I hope you liked this album and do let me know if you give any of these techniques a go.

Little Darlings - Mini Album

It was with a very heavy heart that I pulled out the G45 Little Darlings paper pad. If I were to cut up these papers, that project had to be really good, afterall these have been my fav papers ever since I set eyes on them.

Well... I am very happy with the outcome - a mini album to record first year milestones of my little baby boy :))

Sunehra is so right when she says how time deprived a new mom is to create a full scrapbook album to record all those precious baby moments. Click here to see her exploding box for the nursery and more about the Precious Baby Challenge running at Itsy Bitsy.

I missed out on making an album for my first one, so this time decided a mini is better than nothing.

Warning: Picture heavy post. Next time Ill post a video instead. Grab yourself a cuppa, site back and enjoy d beauty of G45 lil darlings.

The outer cover of the album is made from one 12x12 sheet and Ive used a very simple accordion fold for the spine. The album measures 7.5 inches by 3.5 inches a rather odd size, but very convenient to slip into your handbag. There are 8 pages excluding the inside of the cover for tags / photographs all created with only 3 pieces of paper. Can you spy on the cover a doily, lace, bling, a prima bulb among the layers? Yes, I fussy cut the butterflies so they didnt look trapped in the paper, lol, but their centres are still part of the paper strip.

Here is the inside of the cover and first page. The papers offer so many options to cut out and use as tags, borders, I didn't really feel the need for any additional em bellies like chipboard or stickers. Through the mini, Ive made bands out of the papers to slide tags behind. One side of the tag has been painted with white acrylic just enough to tone down the background to enable journalling.

Kaisercraft rub on and scrap from a border punch used to frame the left side page. The right side is a big sheet of paper folded in half. Both pages have a band to slide in tags.

My Fav page.. its one sheet folded into two......aren't those sleeping beauties dripping with cuteness. On the right side page, a page border and rocking girl make another band to tuck in tags.

On the left, you can see the border punched paper whose scrap was used to frame the  Treasured page.

The right hand page is a fold out page. Inside is the most beautiful graphic (according to me) of the collection. Ive fussy cut coordinating frames to make another band and tags

Finally, onto the last page - a simple pocket on the left. The left is the inside of the cover and the tage has been tucked under fussy cut cabbage babies.

A big heartfelt thank you for making it this far down
my post, hope you enjoyed. I would love to hear your thoughts, your comments mean a lot to me.
