DT CALL - Scrapping4fun challenges: May - August 2014

Hello everyone,

Scrapping4funChallenges are looking for dedicated crafters who have a passion for creating all kinds of projects......from layouts, cards, mini albums or "off the page" creations. The New Design Team Ladies will run for a 4 month term. This term will be from the 1st of May 2014 to 31st of August 2014.

Click here to go have a look at their blog and details on how to apply.

Look alikes.....

Well..... afterall they are brothers. My second try at adding glitter to a project uses the color palette from kreative koncepts previously (Scrapfriends) colour challenge #23.  These are some of my favourite colours and are also the same colours in the Crate paper Love Notes collection which I just am not able to put down after my last layout.

The subject of the layout is my kids.... no surprise :) I found these two snaps of my lil ones where they look so much like each other. Unfortunately, I don't have the dates the photos were taken but they looks like they were a couple months new. So, this is my second entry to Itsy Bitsy Precious baby challenge.

Again, like the glitter card, Ive thinned down glue with water and used a brush to make splatters before adding glitter. Adding this to the Glam with Glitter challenge at Color Conceptions

Glam with Glitter

I've been discovering and following lots of blogs this month. One I them  colour conceptions which currently has a Glam with glitter challenge on. The design team have come up with so many creative ways of using glitter on projects so I was tempted to try my hand at it too. Glitter is definitely not my thing, atleast that's what I thought... I finally brought out these beautiful test tubes of glitter that my mom picked up from itsy bitsy and sat down to experiment and ended up making 3 projects! Today, I'm sharing the first one - a card.

The design for my card was inspired from the picture over at ARTastic challenges by the artist Lyn Butchart - Bluebirds. You must check this blog if you already haven't done so. Each month, the team there introduce the readers to an amazing artist and their work. The art piece then becomes a source of inspiration for creations that month. Alongwith that, there is also a series of inspiration, tips and tutorials from the creative team and guest designers. For my card, Ive used 2 feathers from the two birds and texture paste for the additional criteria.

I first hand drew and cut out a feather each from music and script paper and shaded using distress inks. Then painted them with multi-medium mixed with glitter. This ensured that glitter didn't overtake the music and script backgrounds, yet added a shimmer to the feathers.

Next I thinned down some glue with water and using a paintbrush created some splatters on the background and sprinkled glitter on them. Although glitter is opaque and feels like it just sits there, the splatter lends some movement to it, which I really was happy with. Finally a wooden button, some jute string and a tag to complete the card. My first CAS card for sure (ha ha ha) but grinning because I learnt a valuable lesson - Dont waste time LOOKING for your style, the truth is you already have it. You just need to create more in order to see it. (Not my quote, found it in an old diary of mine)

Pink - a boy layout???

This months mood board over at Scrap Around the World is all pink, gorgeous lovely baby pink and I really wanted to play along. So, I chose this photo of my two boys - the first time they met each other and enveloped them in luscious shades of pink taken from the mood board. The sketch is inspired from the one over at purple pumpkin.

March sketch

A little about how I made my layout. The base is 12x12 card stock. I've pasted tissue paper on it, applied gel medium using a chevron stencil. On drying the gel medium acted as a resist and allowed for the print on the tissue to be seen through when painted with watercolours to create an ombré effect.  More layers of paint through stencils and splatters before matting the photo on several layers of crate paper love notes collection.

Little Darlings - Mini Album

It was with a very heavy heart that I pulled out the G45 Little Darlings paper pad. If I were to cut up these papers, that project had to be really good, afterall these have been my fav papers ever since I set eyes on them.

Well... I am very happy with the outcome - a mini album to record first year milestones of my little baby boy :))

Sunehra is so right when she says how time deprived a new mom is to create a full scrapbook album to record all those precious baby moments. Click here to see her exploding box for the nursery and more about the Precious Baby Challenge running at Itsy Bitsy.

I missed out on making an album for my first one, so this time decided a mini is better than nothing.

Warning: Picture heavy post. Next time Ill post a video instead. Grab yourself a cuppa, site back and enjoy d beauty of G45 lil darlings.

The outer cover of the album is made from one 12x12 sheet and Ive used a very simple accordion fold for the spine. The album measures 7.5 inches by 3.5 inches a rather odd size, but very convenient to slip into your handbag. There are 8 pages excluding the inside of the cover for tags / photographs all created with only 3 pieces of paper. Can you spy on the cover a doily, lace, bling, a prima bulb among the layers? Yes, I fussy cut the butterflies so they didnt look trapped in the paper, lol, but their centres are still part of the paper strip.

Here is the inside of the cover and first page. The papers offer so many options to cut out and use as tags, borders, I didn't really feel the need for any additional em bellies like chipboard or stickers. Through the mini, Ive made bands out of the papers to slide tags behind. One side of the tag has been painted with white acrylic just enough to tone down the background to enable journalling.

Kaisercraft rub on and scrap from a border punch used to frame the left side page. The right side is a big sheet of paper folded in half. Both pages have a band to slide in tags.

My Fav page.. its one sheet folded into two......aren't those sleeping beauties dripping with cuteness. On the right side page, a page border and rocking girl make another band to tuck in tags.

On the left, you can see the border punched paper whose scrap was used to frame the  Treasured page.

The right hand page is a fold out page. Inside is the most beautiful graphic (according to me) of the collection. Ive fussy cut coordinating frames to make another band and tags

Finally, onto the last page - a simple pocket on the left. The left is the inside of the cover and the tage has been tucked under fussy cut cabbage babies.

A big heartfelt thank you for making it this far down
my post, hope you enjoyed. I would love to hear your thoughts, your comments mean a lot to me.

My first try at CSI and birthday celeb

With hardly a few minutes to spare, I managed to get this layout uploaded on to CSI gallery for their challenge # 112. Well, I'm glad CSI doesn't require a blogpost and linking or I'd have never made it, being so late in blogging about it.

I enjoyed making this layout of my lil boy and his antiques. It's a photo from a year ago, but memories still fresh. All kids go through this age of 'what is that?' Non-stop questions about everything around from the sky to the creepy crawlies in the garden. Now he is at a different stage - WHY is this blah blah..... And I thought what was bad enough!

Here is one of the clusters on the page : do you spy thread, chipboard word, flowers and my favourite new find........ A tape measure. This is a tape measure from Freedom the other day when we went mattress shopping. I've torn and distressed coloured wish I had picked up more of these.

Now onto the other challenge that I'm linking this with : Lulupu - which is celebrating its 2nd birthday this month. Along with a very creative challenge this month, they also have a raffle giveaway (click the image on the sidebar for details on the raffle)

The challenge this month is to use the alphabets of the store's name - L U L U P U and come up with projects using anything that begins with at least 3 of these lettersAnd to add some more option to the that you may also use the initials of The Craft Lounge

Here are the letters I've used in my layout -

L - layering, leaves
T - texture paste, thread, tape measure, TCW template
P - pattern paper, prima butterfly, paint

Thank you so much for visiting my blog. Have a great day :))
